Ductwork for Windsor homes

Windsor's homes range from early-1900s brick houses with radiators in Walkerville and the older core to post-war bungalows and newer subdivisions in the east and south ends. Many older Windsor homes have ductwork that was adapted from gravity heating systems or extended piece by piece through decades of renovations. Undersized returns and long runs to upper bedrooms are common, and fixing those often helps more than replacing the furnace.

What's included

Duct design, repair, sealing and new runs that fix hot and cold rooms, weak airflow and noisy vents. Depending on your home and equipment, the work can include:

Airflow diagnosis
Return air upgrades
New runs and relocations
Sealing and insulation
Balancing dampers
Zoning
Find the problem.
Fix the biggest restriction first.
Quote in writing.
Re-test.

Full details, how the work runs and common questions are on our main ductwork page.

Local conditions in Windsor

Humidity and older ductwork are the two big air issues in Windsor homes. Damp basements and sticky summers call for dehumidification, while ducts extended through decades of renovations often need return upgrades, sealing or cleaning to deliver air properly.

Questions to ask before you hire

Whoever you hire for ductwork in Windsor, get clear answers to these before signing:

How did you find where the airflow problem is?

Will you re-measure airflow after the work?
Can the work be done in stages?

Permits and licensing

Building permits in Windsor are issued by the City of Windsor's Building Services department. Some HVAC work, such as new ductwork in renovations or changes that affect the building structure, may need a permit, while gas appliance installations must be done by a TSSA-registered contractor and electrical work by a licensed electrical contractor.
